Birding with an Award-Winning Expert: Jennifer Bristol to Host Cemetery Birding Event at Front Street Books

Front Street Books, the Big Bend and Borderland’s full-service, independent bookstore specializing in regional books and local authors, will host a public event with award-winning author and birder Jennifer Bristol. The event, scheduled to last two hours, will celebrate the release of Bristol’s latest book, “Cemetery Birding.” It will be an opportunity for enthusiasts to meet the author, share pictures, and test their skill at identifying bird calls.

Jennifer L. Bristol, a resident of Austin, is the former director of the Texas Children in Nature program at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. As the recipient of the Most Valuable Birder Award in the Great Texas Birding Classic for two consecutive years (2018 and 2019), Bristol is a notable figure in the birding community. She currently guides cemetery bird walks for Travis Audubon.

In addition to “Cemetery Birding,” Bristol is the author of “Parking Lot Birding: A Fun Guide to Discovering Birds in Texas” and a contributor to “Texas State Parks the First 100 Years 1923–2023.” The bookstore will have both of her books available for purchase during the event.

The event by Front Street Books, located at 121 East Holland Ave. in Alpine, invites birding enthusiasts and fans of Bristol’s work to a casual meet, greet, and chat session. Attendees are encouraged to bring their bird pictures and try their “ear” at identifying bird calls with the guidance of Bristol herself.

Front Street Books, known for its selection of award winners, best sellers, and works by local authors, continues its dedication to community engagement with this unique gathering. Those interested in regional fauna, specifically birds, and Texas history will find this event particularly appealing.

The gathering promises to be a lively and informative session for birding enthusiasts of all levels, allowing them to connect with a renowned expert in the field.
